What's up?The Mt. Beacon Incline Railway once climbed
1,500 feet sharply up historic Mt. Beacon, and thrilled its passengers to spectacular
views of the Hudson River Valley in the Hudson Highlands (where many of the great Hudson
River artists were inspired). Located in Beacon New York, 60 miles north of New York City,
it delighted thousands of people for over seventy five years until it was tragically
destroyed by fire in 1983.
Our Organization...
Entering into our
fifth year of operation, the Incline Society is comprised of
volunteers working to restore the railway. We are registered with the New York State
Department of Education as a not-for-profit Historical Society
and hold a Provisional
Charter issued by the New York State Board of Regents. The Society is also an
approved IRS 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization. |
Now, with the acquisition of
the mountain by Scenic Hudson Land Trust and the formation of the Incline Society, there
is renewed excitement to restore this once great landmark for public use. Please
visit our pages and let us know what you think and be sure to look at our historic prints
for sale at our gifts page.Thank you !!!
